Young Blues help Wales win Tokyo Bowl

24th March 2014

Cardiff Blues young rising stars Owen Jenkins and Tomos Williams helped Wales claim the Bowl at the Tokyo Sevens over the weekend.

Jenkins and Williams both performed for Wales as they secured a gutsy 28-21 win over Scotland at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Ground as part of the Asian leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Wales were just edged out of the Cup competition due to an inferior points difference to Canada but they put that disappointment behind them to beat Spain, Japan and Scotland to claim the Bowl crown.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Wales Under-18s – who included James Whittingham (Blues/Cowbridge), Michael Hale (Blues/Glantaf/St Josephs), Liam Belcher (Blues/Coleg y Cymoedd/Pontypridd), Jordan Viggers (Blues/St David's/St Peter's), Keiron Assirratti (Blues/Coleg y Cymoedd/Wattstown) and Seb Davies (Blues/Coleg y Cymoedd/Pentyrch) from Blues – as they were defeated 43-12 by England at the Gnoll.
