Wilson relishing Scarlets derby at sold out CAP

28th December 2017

Danny Wilson is relishing the opportunity to return to a sold out Cardiff Arms Park as Cardiff Blues host the Scarlets in their next Guinness PRO14 Welsh derby.

It was confirmed this morning that the iconic ground in the heart of the Welsh capital will be at capacity on New Year’s Eve.

And after kicking off a spell of three consecutive Welsh derbies with a win at Rodney Parade, Wilson is looking forward to hosting the reigning champions.

He said: “It’s a massive occasion, any derby is huge and we talk about gaining pride from derbies. We are two out of three in derbies this season and now we go into Scarlets and Ospreys.

“We’re always keen to get a good record there because that’s where you gain bragging rights and more importantly respect.

“It’s brilliant to hear Cardiff Arms Park is sold out. It’s a brilliant place to play rugby when full, with a very loud and knowledgeable crowd.”

Wilson will also be hoping for kinder conditions on New Year’s Eve having played in atrocious weather on the last three occasions.

The Blues crashed to defeat in heavy snow in the North West against Sale but avenged that loss a week late in the wind and rain of Cardiff and that of Newport on Boxing Day.

He said: “Our identity and the way we play is not ideal for those conditions however we have shown we can adapt and play differently to come away with two good wins against two sides who perhaps are more suited to those conditions.

“They are two excellent wins for us, they give us nice momentum going into Scarlets at home, which is a tough game but we’re top of our European pool, were fourth in the league with the ability to put pressure on third.”

Tickets for Cardiff Blues' next home fixture - a crucial European Challenge Cup clash with French giants Toulouse - on January 14, are available now!
