Wilson pleased with successful comebacks

27th March 2017

Danny Wilson expressed his delight after a number of players including Gethin Jenkins came through their comebacks unscathed.

Jenkins, namesake Ellis Jenkins and Rey Lee-Lo all returned from injury in the 22-21 defeat to Guinness PRO12 leaders Leinster and suffered no complaints.

It was a timely boost for Cardiff Blues ahead of Saturday’s European Challenge Cup quarter-final against Gloucester and Wilson was pleased with the progress.

Wilson said: “He’s obviously going to take a little while. That was his first competitive game in a number of months but we all know Gethin will pick that up very quickly and there were a lot of good individual performances out there.”

While Tomos Williams and Sion Bennett scored the tries in Dublin, Wilson also singled out Alex Cuthbert for his work-rate and threat with the ball.

The wing carried the ball beyond the gain-line on eight occasions, made several key interventions, including an almost length of the pitch touch-finder and won two turnovers.

Wilson added: “It was a very good display from Alex and it was very pleasing to see another of those performances for us.

“Hopefully that will do him a world of good in terms of confidence and also for all of us going to Gloucester next weekend for a big quarter-final.”
