Wilson hails 'best win of the season'

Head Coach Danny Wilson hailed the 'best win of the season' as Cardiff Blues produced a stylish display to defeat Scarlets 28-22 in then Guinness PRO12 at Parc y Scarets.

Welsh international trio Lloyd Williams, Tom James and Gareth Anscombe grabbed the tries while Sam Warburton was named man-of-the-match.

And the performance – in particular a stunning first half to rock the home side – left Wilson thrilled.

“It’s a fantastic win,” said Wilson. “We came here with confidence after recent performances and had a game plan that worked.

“In the first half we had a tempo that suited us better than them; and you don’t often come here and say that.

“In the second half the Scarlets showed what fight they have to get back into the game, but we also showed our quality and I was pleased with our composure at the end with 14 men to run the clock down and get the result.

“I felt we nullified their attack with the back row we played,” he added. “Those three back rows have been outstanding and Sam (Warburton) was superb and deservedly named man-of-the-match.

“Sam caused them huge problems and it’s great to have him back in a Cardiff Blues jersey.

“The first half was really good and they couldn’t deal with us in terms of attack. As a result it is the best win of the season.

“It’s a tough venue to come and win. But we don’t stop here. We still have lots to improve on and hopefully we have started the journey to get more of these type of results.”
