Williams signs new contract

19th October 2016

Cardiff Blues can confirm highly-rated scrum-half Tomos Williams has agreed a new long-term contract with the region.

The livewire scrum-half, a former Wales Under-20s star, broke into the first team squad last season and has made an impressive start to the 2016-17 Guinness PRO12 season.

And he did not hesitate to put pen to paper on his first senior contract with his home region.

Williams said: “I’m very pleased to have signed a new contract and it was an easy decision to make.

“The region are heading in a positive direction and I am excited to see what we can achieve both this season and the next few.

“I’m really enjoying the environment created by Danny Wilson and the other coaches, and the playing style they encourage.”

Since making his debut in 2013, Williams has made 19 appearances, winning particular praise at the tail end of last season.

Cardiff Blues head coach was delighted to secure his services and is looking forward to his progression in a blue shirt.

Wilson said: “It’s great that Tomos has committed his future to Cardiff Blues and we are delighted to have him here.

“He is a young, exciting player who has a big future in the game if he continues his development.

“He has shown some good form this season but there is still plenty of improvement to be made. With Tomos, Lloyd Williams and Lewis Jones we have a lot of strength in depth and that competition will drive them on individually.”
