We must learn from mistakes ahead of Belfast trip - Mulvihill

23rd November 2018

John Mulvihill insists it's important for his side to learn from their mistakes and move on to next week's Guinness PRO14 clash against Ulster.

Cardiff Blues suffered a 40-15 defeat to Conference A leaders, Glasgow Warriors, on Friday.

Despite a spirited and improved second half performance, Wales’ Capital Region couldn’t claw their way back into the clash, and Mulvihill has emphasised the importance of the trip to Belfast ahead of back-to-back European fixtures against Saracens.

“It definitely wasn’t the first half that we wanted. Our focus was to start well, and we got the first three points on the board, but individually we fell off tackles, which was a big factor in the game,” said the Australian.

“We have to learn from those errors because we can’t keep making them. We’ll be playing Glasgow four times this year and certainly we’ll be better for it next week.

“All the boys that came on as replacements played really well and have certainly put their hands up for selection next week.

“This is only the first game after our break, with the first three all away from home.

“Ulster are a really good team, and we’ll review their performances and make sure we’ll get our performance right. From that, we’ll build a gameplan from what we’ve got.

“We’ll have players coming back from international duty and some of the subs from tonight might have a chance to start next week.

“It’s important for us to get back to winning ways next week, leading into back-to-back games against Saracens in Europe.

“Our major focus at the moment is the PRO14 and we get another crack at it next week before we go into the Champions Cup.”
