Warburton: Awesome to get back out there

25th January 2016

Returning back row Sam Warburton admitted it was 'awesome' to make his comeback for Cardiff Blues in the thumping European victory over Rugby Calvisano.

The Wales skipper returned to the Cardiff Blues team for the first time since late November as Danny Wilson’s men rattled up a 74-6 win at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

And Warburton admits he would now love to feature again against Edinburgh if permitted by the Welsh management.

He said: “It was awesome to be back out there - I was absolutely desperate to play.”

“Normally in the build up to a game, there is a little bit of nerves but it was more just desperation to get out there and play rugby.

“I just wanted to put a tackle in, get a carry. I was a little bit rusty, but all in all pretty pleased.

“It was a perfect game to come back in,” he added. “Chatting to the conditioners afterwards, in a normal game I cover five to six kilometres.. I covered 7 plus out there because there was so much attacking rugby played. There was a lot more running, so it was a great one for me to get the lungs going.

“It was great to be back at the Arms Park playing and to be part of a big win and I hope to be back out there next week as well. I am desperate to get back here and get some games in a Cardiff Blues shirt.

“We gave it a good crack in this European competition and at least now we focus on the league.

“We have got quite a few home games coming up and next week against Edinburgh is a massive one now

“We are looking forward to that and hopefully we will get another home win which will get us going up that table.”
