Vale of Glamorgan Schools 33 Pontypool Schools 0

31st January 2007

Vale schools obviously aware that the slow start by them the previous Saturday resulted in a defeat by Newport ,started with gusto and an early scything run through the Pontypool defence by James Whittingham saw the number 10 put right wing Lewis Harrison over for a try in the far corner.

The try superbly converted by Harry Collier. The restart saw Vale collect and drive back at the Pontypool line and only a fine relieving kick to touch from Alex Gloaskin saved Pontypool , then only due to fine defencive tackling by Gloaskin , Senior , Ward and Capeland , prevented the Vale adding to their score as they applied continuous pressure , just on half time a fine probing run by the diminutive Owain Lord , taken on by Lewis Morgan and a short pop pass to James Little (the Vale captain) was over under the posts .Collier duly converted . Half time 14 /0

The second half saw Pontypool attempt to run the ball at the vale but resolute tackling by Whittingham , Morgan and Ed Howley denied them time and time again. Vale playing a short ball after being awarded a penalty brought full back Connely into line and his weaving run back inside and well floated pass to collier allowed the back row forward to put Harrison over for his second try.

Vale were now playing with confidence and excellent handling by their backs saw Connelly again join the line this time Morgan finishing the move , Whittingham converting.
An enterprising run from Gloaskin to deep into Vales half needed a superb tackle by Whittingham to prevent Poaler scoring.

Vale responded with Liam Driscoll finishing off another sniping run by Owain Lord. Whittingham narrowly missing the conversion.
