16th January 2019

Cardiff Blues Community Foundation are delighted to welcome Renishaw on board as a new official partner.

The Community Foundation was launched in September, with an aim of using the power of sport to INSPIRE, ENGAGE and IMPROVE opportunities for all.

They have since significantly bolstered their work force and have now agreed a three-year partnership with Renishaw –one of the world’s leading engineering and scientific technology companies.

As part of the agreement, the Cardiff Blues Community Foundation will deliver a new secondary school program to raise the aspirations of Year 8 and 9 pupils.

The program is already being piloted in six schools within the region with more than 100 children taking part.

Cardiff Blues Community Foundation director,Nadine Griffiths said: “It is brilliant to link up with such a world-renowned company, who have a significant presence within our community.

“The partnership forms part of our long-term commitment to help children fulfil their potential, follow their dreams and highlight opportunities to pursue the career paths that interest them, making them more employable and improving our communities.

“Almost 50 children from Tonyrefail Community School, Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School and Whitchurch High School have nearly completed the course. We have had some great feedback from the pupils from their visit to the impressive Renishaw plant at Miskin and University visits are planned for later this month”

Renishaw employs more than 400 people at its Miskin site near Pontyclun and also sponsor the Cardiff Blues Ladies team.

The partnership also includes Wales international scrum-half Tomos Williams and Blues Ladies’ flanker Kira Philpott acting as brand ambassadors for Renishaw.

The company recently supported a Girls Rookie Rugby day at the Cardiff City House of Sport Air Dome, which was attended by more than 600, and a Girls Elite Camp at the region’s Vale training base.

Chris Pockett, Head of Communications at Renishaw said, “Renishaw has made significant investments in our Miskin site, where we now have over 400 employees. As a significant employer we see it as very important to engage with our local communities, especially in the areas of education, skills development and encouraging greater gender diversity in the engineering sector.

“We are therefore delighted to become an official Community Partner of Cardiff Blues and look forward to delivering some exciting education projects over the next few years.”
