The Premiership Rugby 7s will host a Welsh leg for the first time this year and according to Regional Rugby Wales chief Mark Davies, all four sides are ready to take the tournament by storm.
"To be part of a meaningful, established competition is really exciting for everyone involved. We really want our supporters to turn out in numbers to make this a special night for all four regions and our players.
“Welsh regional rugby has always been about backing and developing exciting young talent and there will be plenty of new faces making their names on the bigger stage in a week’s time.
“It’s going to be a great night and with tickets at just £5 for our season ticket holders – it’s set to be a brilliant summer’s evening of fast rugby with lots of flair and skills on show.”
Cardiff Arms Park will be the setting for the opening leg of the competition on Saturday July 26, which sees Scarlets, Cardiff Blues, Ospreys and Newport Gwent Dragons fight for the right to reach the Finals at The Stoop.
And Davies insists all four Welsh regions will fit seamlessly into the spirit of the tournament, with a host of hidden gems set to grab the spotlight on a thrilling night of 7s rugby.
"I'm really excited about the Welsh clubs getting involved with the Premiership Rugby 7s," said Davies, who is also chief executive at Scarlets. "The players are excited, the coaches are excited and our loyal supporters are getting excited as well.
"It will be great fun and it's a great platform for us because we've got strong 7s rugby at junior level but it's something that's been missing at the regional game.
"Our Regions approaching the competition with intent and all four regions have an abundance of young, exciting talent because we run deeper squads as the international call-ups are taken from just four of us not 12, like in England.
"This is another opportunity to get the young players out there and see what they can do on a bigger stage.
"To be part of a meaningful, established competition is really exciting for everyone involved.
“It’s going to be great evening and a chance for our supporters to see some of the exciting young talent we have here in Wales. The players know that it’s a big opportunity for them to put a marker down in the pre-season for future selection.”
The Premiership Rugby 7s may be in uncharted waters in Wales but Davies expects the tournament to capture a public's imagination in the capital.
He added: "BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park is iconic - it says it all. We're in the capital city on a Saturday night in the summer and for us that's an opportunity to bring new people into the game as well as our existing supporters.
"7s as a product is easier to access for people not involved in rugby - it's fast and it's quick and there will be lots of running rugby which the entire Welsh support base loves.
"The Welsh regions are approaching this with a desire to win, not just to play so I expect there will be a mix of youth and experience.
"It's such a different dynamic as a game that we'll coach it separately and it is an opportunity, for us at Cardiff at least, to give the youngsters a chance."
