Prop star Mitch loving life at Blues

15th August 2014

Summer signing Craig Mitchell has revealed he is relishing life at Cardiff Blues as he bids to launch the next chapter of his successful career at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park tonight (Friday).

Welsh international Mitchell will pack down alongside Thomas Davies and Rhys Williams in the front row as Blues face his former club Exeter Chiefs (kick-off 7.30pm).

Mitchell has enjoyed a strong pre-season as he looks to hit top form at his new club.

And now the powerhouse prop is keen to show what he learnt in England as he pulls on a Blues jersey for the first time tonight.

"I've loved it since I've been back. It's all positive at the moment. It was quite an easy decision for me,” said the 28-year-old front row.

"I’d obviously moved away from the Ospreys and taken a big step in moving to England and playing my rugby there. The first couple of seasons went well before I got struck down with a few injuries.

"The opportunity came up to play for Cardiff Blues and I jumped at the chance. Obviously coming back home was an added bonus.

"It's a big positive that I have been able to stay injury free throughout pre-season. I'm feeling as fit as I did when I was playing for Wales.

"I had a good time at Exeter and I wish them well… but not too much luck for Friday,” he added.

"From a rugby perspective, I got a lot of game-time at Exeter and there's a lot set-piece work in the Premiership. I think I have taken positives from that.

"For me, it's all about getting back out onto the pitch and getting that form back. That's my main priority and helping the Blues do well. It's good to be back and just looking forward to the game.”
