Cardiff Blues start their Heineken Cup campaign with a visit to Sale Sharks this Sunday.
Speaking at the Blues training centre, Davies said,
“Sunday's game against Sale Sharks is a great opportunity, bringing a little bit of fresh focus in terms of competition.
“It certainly will be a big challenge for us starting away up in Sale.
“The Heineken Cup is a great competition and really gets the blood flowing.
“For me it is the Champions League of rugby.
“I have experienced some highs in the competition as well as some lows.
“The last two results in the Rabo haven’t gone our way but hopefully the supporters understand and have a bit of patience with us.
“We want to go out there every week and do well and perform, and, hopefully, win matches.
“Sometimes you don't get the outcomes you want, but you have to learn from it, keep your head down and just get on with it.
“We hope the supporters can see that and don't get too frustrated with the boys.
“The majority of the supporters have been fantastic, and the ones I speak to get a bit frustrated when the team don't do what they expect them to do and that’s understandable.
“Regardless, they continue to be fully behind the players, which is important.”
Speaking of the two Romanian prop forwards who arrived yesterday at the Blues, Davies added,
“We are trying to get a proactive retention and recruitment programme going.
“We are doing research on the people that are coming in and we want to retain the people that we are keen to keep.
“I have a link with Lynn Howells who is coaching Romania and we've had a link with the Romanian Rugby Union.
‘We have a two of their props, Andrei Ursache and Petru Tamba, over for experience as much as anything.
‘If they fit the bill and come up to the mark, which, potentially, I'm sure they will, it gives us options.
“Were looking to do a similar thing with a couple of players from New Zealand in November as well, to make sure that we are looking at improving the group all the time.
“When players come over in the future we will have done a fair amount of research on them.
“It’s a good process that the Blues have adopted in the past and we are looking to try and develop that but adding value to it as well.
“This is the start of that process and they will be over for a month before they go back to playing the Autumn Internationals.
“There's a potential for them to come back after that if everyone is happy with the process.”
Cardiff Blues play Sale Sharks away this Sunday 12.45pm kick off, Sky Sports Red Button, before facing Toulon at the Arms Park the following Sunday, 12.45pm kick off.
