Phil Davies enjoys an evening with Rhondda Schools

10th July 2012

The Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby was the special guest of Rhondda Schools for their annual presentation evening

Speaking of the event, Davies said,

“The main focus of the night was to present the kids from 11 years of age to 16 years of age with their certificates and trophies and it was an excellent evening.”

“It was held at Treorchy Comprehensive School and there was a fantastic turn out ranging from under 11’s boys and girls to the under 15’s who won the Dewar Shield again last year.”

“Lou Reed was also there having won his senior cap and Willgriff John and Tom Davies for their under 20’s caps.”

“It was a great evening and good to see the amount of effort Neil Boobyer, Chris Jones and Bernard Jones are putting in to deliver that rugby programme in the Rhondda.”

“It’s a great source of talent ID for us to tap into and generally get interested in rugby and coming to watch the Blues.”

“I think rugby in the Rhondda is as strong as ever judging by the meetings I’ve had with Chris and Neil.”

“It was great to go up there and see what they do and their record in the Dewar Shield in an enviable one.”

‘I’d like to increase the Blues visibility up in that area as well as increase the talent identification.”

“There are plans for a Roadshow in Penygraig in September when there could be a thousand schoolchildren watching us train up there.”

‘We’ve also invited the Dewar Shield under 15’s team down to come to watch us train in August.”
