Rhys Patchell has paid tribute to the environment head coach Danny Wilson has created at Cardiff Blues.
The 22-year-old will leave BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park at the end of the season but he has been impressed by the feel-good factor and playing style at the capital city region.
Wilson’s men are currently the leading points-scorers in the Guinness PRO12 (466) and the top try-scorers (54), while Patchell’s 174-point season haul also leads the way.
He said: “Under Danny we have found a style of play that really suits us and then we’ve worked and worked and worked.
“Everybody has really bought into it and everyone enjoys it. The boys enjoy getting the ball in their hands and shifting it around.
“It’s a really exciting way of playing, especially the way we shift the ball and that’s something that has evolved.
“It’s certainly enjoyable to play and I hope it’s enjoyable to watch and people come to the Arms Park and get on their feet to support the boys.
“That’s why you play, to get the ball through your hands, to run with the ball, catch and pass and do all those things.
“There’s also a real level of detail that goes into everything we do, be that the way the forwards carry or the angle of running.
“Everyone is always on their toes because we know we have to be on the money – this year we have rotated the squad and boys have come in and done really well.
“Wins also help, a winning environment is a happy environment and a happy environment tends to end up being a winning environment.
“It’s a good place to work at the moment and that’s exciting.”
Now the play-maker is determined to give everything he has to the cause in his remaining three matches, beginning with Sunday’s Welsh derby against Newport Gwent Dragons (2.30pm).
The Blues are aiming for a top six finish in the PRO12, which would secure automatic qualification for the top-tier European Champions Cup.
Patchell added: “As long as I’m a Cardiff Blues player I will be giving 100 per cent for the Blues and that’s how it should be.
“It will be the same this weekend, the same on Judgement Day, if selected, and then for the Edinburgh game.
“Every time I go on the pitch it is great to wear the jersey and my old man’s advice was to give 100 per cent until the end of the season, hopefully people have seen that.
“Once you make a decision you have to back yourself. But am I pleased the club is going in the direction it is then yes.
“There’s a lot of people who work really hard to make this place work and for them to get success, the players have to go on the pitch and deliver it, but everyone wins and loses together – that’s the epitome of a team.
“There’s now three games left and we’re not out of the hunt. But every win we’ve had previously won’t count for a lot if we don’t go out and put in a performance against the Dragons and hopefully get a result.”
