Owen welcomes cyclists to Amsterdam

8th June 2016

Owen Williams was in Amsterdam to welcome more than 30 riders who had cycled 340 miles from Cardiff.

The party set off from BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday and made their way to the Dutch capital to raise funds for the #StayStrongForOws campaign.

Owen met the successful riders at the I Amsterdam sign following a final day of 66 miles.

Speaking from Amsterdam Owen said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has taken part in the ride and all of those that have supported the cyclists.

“It was brilliant to see them all ride into Amsterdam and I’m looking forward to toasting their efforts at the celebratory meal.”

The bike ride followed last year’s trip to Paris as part of the #StayStrongForOws campaign.

Owen suffered a serious spinal injury while representing Cardiff Blues in the Singapore Club 10s two years ago.

He is now living back home in Aberdare where he continues to adapt to his life-changing injuries and all funds raised will go towards a purpose-built house currently under construction.

Cardiff Blues CEO Richrd Holland was one of several of the region’s staff who took part in the arduous challenge and he was thrilled to reach the finish line.

He added: “It’s another incredible achievement from every rider who has taken part this year.

“We have been lucky with the weather but it has been very tough at times, in particular during some of the longer days in unusually hot weather.

“It is a cause very close to all of our hearts and we continue to support Owen. It’s great to have him here with us and I’m sure we will all enjoy a Heineken or two thanks to our kind sponsors.

“I also have to thank the staff of Passion In Events who have done a fantastic job.”
