On a blustery and very cold Friday night at Porthcawl RFC Cardiff & Vale U12’s pulled off another good win, this time against tough Bridgend opposition.

Within two minutes of the kick-off a dazzling fifty metre sprint up the touchline from St Peters wing Jack Huntley opened the scoring for the visitors. Rhiwbina outside half Josh Rees added the conversion. The rest of the first half was a very stop-start affair and the Cardiff & Vale side found it difficult to get into their normal flowing style. Credit should be given to the defence of both sides as they fought to cancel each other out. As the half came to an end the home side pressed the visitors’ line and an equalising score look imminent. However, from a defensive five metre lineout the Cardiff & Vale forwards broke into midfield to feed St Peters fullback Danny Wardle who ghosted clear to race a full seventy metres and score under the posts. Josh Rees again added the conversion to make it 14-0.

The second half turned into a rather long and drawn out battle between two well matched sides and no further scores were added. The twenty one Cardiff & Vale boys that played on the night certainly did themselves proud in keeping the squad’s unbeaten record for the season. Six games played, 173 points for and 20 against (29 tries scored and 4 conceded).
