In the perfect setting of Division One West Club Narberth RFC, an extremely entertaining game between potential future Llanelli Scarlets and Cardiff Blues players provided a great advert for the grassroots game and junior representative rugby.

There were polished performances by both teams’ players but particular special mention from the Cardiff and Vale team go to Tom Perry in the backline and at forward Tom Cross, Gavin Nash, Shaun Kent, Richard Pilcher and Mike Perks, a number of whom made a real impact playing District Representative Rugby for the first time.

With only a few minutes remaining, Cardiff and Vale were trailing 19-15 but some fine driving forward play presented the backs with some quality ball and they in turn moved the ball swiftly through the hands enabling space out wide to clinch a try to win the match at the ‘death’.

Final Score: PEMBROKESHIRE 19 CARDIFF & VALE 20

There were two players nominated for the player of the match award, fullback Matthew Richards of Pembrokeshire and winger Will Singer of Cardiff and Vale. The fact that these two players were nominated is testament to the intent that both sides played with in playing an attractive open style of rugby.

Cardiff and Vale now look forward to playing their opening fixture of the Junior District Championship against Heart Of Wales on 1st October.
