Mulvihill has every faith in Anscombe

First Team News | 23rd April 2019

John Mulvihill has 100 per cent confidence that Gareth Anscombe will give his very all to sign off from Cardiff Blues on a winning note.

It was announced last week that Anscombe would be joining the Ospreys next season and the two sides go head-to-head at Judgement Day.

As if there was not already enough riding on the Principality Stadium encounter, with a European play-off at stake, the decision of Anscombe has added extra spice.

But Mulvihill, who admits it is disappointing to lose the fly-half, has every faith he will be fully committed and professional.

Mulvihill said: “Gareth’s the complete professional player and has had a great season with ourselves and Wales. Professional boys will want to finish their careers at our club on a high and as winners.

“If there’s a 50/50 ball or a goal to be kicked, he’s the man to do it. We might see the Gareth Anscombe show on Saturday because guys like that thrive under pressure. There will be a bit of pressure on him and he will look back on that game with a bit of pride.

“Players and coaches come and go and it’s quite unreal we happen to be playing the Ospreys this week but he’s a true professional and will be going out in our colours to win a game for Cardiff Blues

“He’s one of our best players so he’ll play. He will want to leave Cardiff Blues on a high and I have 100 per cent confidence in him.”

If Cardiff Blues triumph at the Principality Stadium on Saturday, it will secure an Arms Park farewell for Anscombe with a place in the Heineken Champions Cup up for grabs.
