Martyn Williams is Regional Captain

30th May 2003

Cardiff's club captain, Martyn Williams, has been confirmed as captain of the new Cardiff regional side for next season.

Regional coach David Young said today,

"Martyn has had a superb season for club and country. None of us here in Cardiff or, indeed, Wales needed reminding about his qualities as a player. More than that, Martyn has been a marvellous club captain and it was only a matter of time before Steve Hansen called on hin to lead his country as well.

"The really great news is that this week Martyn accepted my invitation to captain the new regional side next season. If that doesn't lift our spirits then nothing will!"

Tomorrow Martyn Williams will lead Wales out for the first time at the Millennium Stadium in the uncapped game against the Barbarians. He has already led Wales in full tests against Scotland and France.
