Lewis and Anscombe start for Wales against Scotland

1st November 2018

Dillon Lewis and Gareth Anscombe have been named in Wales' starting line-up for Saturday's Doddie Weir Cup encounter against Scotland at Principality Stadium.

The duo are joined in the matchday 23 by half-back duo, Tomos Williams and uncapped Jarrod Evans, who are both named on the bench.

Tighthead prop, Lewis has five caps to his name, but will make his first international appearance at the home of Welsh rugby.

Meanwhile, Anscombe will get a chance to shine in the number 10 jersey and stake his claim before Wales face Australia, Tonga and South Africa later in the Under Armour Series.

Uncapped Evans, who has impressed in Cardiff Blues colours, features in Warren Gatland's set-up for the first time, having been officially called up to the squad last week.

Two further Cardiff Blues academy have also been included in the form of full back, Leigh Halfpenny, and lock Cory Hill.

Former Wales Sevens star, Luke Morgan, who now plys his trade with Ospreys, will make his bow on the international stage, starting on the left wing.

Back coach, Rob Howley, said: "We are looking forward to kicking off our autumn campaign on Saturday and it was great to welcome Warren back yesterday.

"Warren has been in constant dialogue with us over the past week and we have selected a very strong squad for this weekend.

"It is great to reward players on form and we are looking forward to seeing Luke make his debut on the wing. He has come through the Sevens system, he will bring a point of difference to the squad and it's a great opportunity for him. Likewise it will be good to see Jarrod from the bench and hopefully seeing some x-factor from him.

"We have created good strength in depth, especially from the summer and have a nice balance bringing seven Lions back into the team.

"We are very respectful of this Scotland team and are looking forward to what should be a great opening match"
