Hammer: Focus purely on Leinster clash

7th January 2015

Director of Rugby Mark Hammett admits his Cardiff Blues are set for a crucial trio of fixtures in January - but insisted his players are focussed no further than the massive home clash with Leinster Rugby.

Cardiff Blues face Irish league champions Leinster Rugby at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2.40pm) as they look to climb the Guinness PRO12 table.

Clashes with Femi-CZ VEA Rugby Rovigo and Grenoble will then decide European knockout rugby fate in the coming weeks.

However, the Blues boss knows the concentration must be totally on Leinster and nowhere else as his Blues look to climb the standings and keep pace with the top six.

“It’s a big month and we have a three-week block of very important games. But what is vital is that the players focus only on Leinster,” he said.

“We’re in good shape after the Dragons game and we are looking forward to the Leinster fixture and what is a big home match.

“Where we are, in our growth as a team, every game is a tough one for us now,” he added.

“There is no such thing as an easy game as we look to develop the way we play and against teams who are higher than us at the moment.

“Leinster are no different; they bring a wealth of experience and success from the past and we have got to rise to that challenge.”

Hammett revealed Rhys Patchell and Chris Dicomidis remained a week off a playing return, but scrum half Lloyd Williams is ready to push for a first team recall.
