Dolan to captain Anglo-Welsh Cup side

26th January 2017

Cam Dolan will captain a team containing a blend of youth and experience as Cardiff Blues target their first victory in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

The USA Rugby international is one of 10 players in the starting line-up to have tasted Guinness PRO12 or European rugby in a Cardiff Blues jersey.

Richard Hodges, who takes charge of the side in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, has also named seven players recently named in the Wales Under-20s squad.

The Cardiff Blues Elite Performance Pathway Manager said: “It’s going to be another tough test up in Manchester on Friday night but we have a bit more experience in the group.

“It’s all about trying to strike a balance. We want to give as many opportunities to some of our youngsters as possible but if we can get a bit of a spine through our side as well then it creates the balance we crave.

“Sale are a side with a big budget and a big squad of players. They are in with a shout of qualifying so whatever they select it will be a tough night but that’s what this group needs.

“We will learn a lot about them in these situations and tough environments. That’s where we will have questions on the youngsters and for the first team boys, it’s a chance to knock on Danny Wilson’s door.”

Aled Summerhill and Jarrod Evans both make their first appearances since suffering injuries in the first round against Exeter Chiefs.

Evans is partnered at half-back by Pele Cowley, who makes his first appearance since joining the region on a short-term contract.

Former Ospreys prop Marc Thomas is also named on the bench after linking up with the Blues from Jersey on a short-term contract.

Cardiff Blues: Aled Summerhill; Teri Gee, Cory Allen, Garyn Smith, Harri Millard, Jarrod Evans, Pele Cowley; Corey Domachowski, Ethan Lewis, Kieron Assiratti, Ben Edwards, Seb Davies, James Sheekey, Morgan Sienawski, Cam Dolan (capt)
