Davies urges squad to take opportunity

1st November 2013

Boss Phil Davies has urged his entire squad to grasp the opportunity to impress over the next month as Cardiff Blues prepare to welcome Benetton Treviso to the Arms Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 2.30pm).

Blues are expected to be without nine players on international duty with Wales for the visit of the Italians.

However, Director of Rugby Davies is excited by the chance for others inside the Blues set-up to stand up and shine in the RaboDirect PRO12.

“Treviso are a challenge and we expect their internationals to be involved so they will be strong,” he said.

“What I am excited about is the group of players we have now. We’ve had a great week’s preparation and we are excited about having a go.

“There will be newcomers and over these next five games we will utilise the squad. It’s all about managing the players so they can give their best week in and week out.

“There is a massive opportunity these next five weeks for players in the squad to show how good they are.

“Aled Summerhill will be in the matchday 23 for the first time which is fantastic for him. He has come through the Academy programme so he is one I am looking forward to watching.

“Saturday afternoon rugby is always special,” added Davies. “I hope we can have a big crowd in and the atmosphere can keep building as it did against Toulon.

“The players are aware of the opportunity. It’s a big, big game for us and we need the supporters right behind us, as they have been all season.”
