Davies looking for 80-minute performance in Friday's festive derby

20th December 2018

Seb Davies wants to see an 80-minute performance from his side as Cardiff Blues prepare to welcome Dragons to the Arms Park on Friday for the first of a trio of festive derbies.

Wales’ Capital Region have gone into half time with a slender lead in the last three games - against Ulster and Saracens - before ending up on the losing side.

However, the Welsh international lock looks forward to a fiery derby and insists his side are feeling confident following encouraging recent performances.

“It should be a great game. It’s a home derby that will be close to a sell-out so I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in,” said Davies.

“It’s really good to get big crowds at our games. I know it’s a little bit of a cliche, but it really does give the boys a boost and I’m sure this week will be another big occasion at the Arms Park.

“The first half in both games against Saracens, we played well, but perhaps let ourselves down and let it slip in the second half.

“We can definitely take confidence from those two games, and the first half of the match at Allianz Park was probably our best defensive performance of the season so far.

“If we keep our performance levels up for 80 minutes we’ll be a tough team to beat and I’m sure we’ll get the job done.

“This run is very important. We’ve got three derbies coming up and it’s an opportunity to get some momentum and build up our points in the PRO14.”

The former Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf pupil featured for Wales during the autumn series, and is looking forward to locking horns with his international team-mates.

“Dragons have a big pack and a pretty good driving game, with quite a lot of big names in their team and some dangerous backs as well.

“If the weather holds up, I think we should be able to contain them but I’m just looking forward to getting out there.

“It will be good to come up against some of the boys from the Wales camp. They’ve all played really well for Dragons and Wales and it will be nice to get on against some good friends.”
