Cardiff Continue DC Thomas Run

24th January 2006

The quarter final of the DC Thomas Cup saw Bridgend take the initiative and score following an over lap on the blind side.

Cardiff consolidated themselves and saw their pack begin to take control. Hooker and pack leader, Sam Sweetingham asserted his authority, with a number of excellent bulldozing runs into the heart of the Bridgend defence. Superb rucking by James Mason, Owen Paul, Kyle Abraham and Ryan Ellery offered clean, quick ball to CardiffÂ’s exciting back line.

On the 22nd minute, centre Mathew Marley beat his opposite number. Full back Danny Wardle entered the line at pace, creating an overlap and the ball was released. Swift and accurate passing saw Gabriel Davies break free to run in a 60 meter try under the posts, converted by the cool headed outside half Joshua Rees.

Final Score: Cardiff 7 - Bridgend 5
