Cardiff Blues to host Ospreys in development game

30th September 2016

Cardiff Blues will host the Ospreys at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park next Wednesday in a development fixture to warm-up for the British & Irish Cup (7.15pm).

The Cardiff Blues Select XV will be made up of players within Wales’ Capital Region’s core squad or academy, who have not featured in the Guinness PRO12.

It is the third season the match has taken place ahead of the British & Irish Cup and entry will be free to spectators.

Instead there will be a bucket collection, in aid of #StayStrongForOws on the gate and supporters are kindly asked to donate generously.

Cardiff Blues Select XV will be headed up by Elite Performance Pathway manager Richard Hodges, who will be assisted by Paul John and Duane Goodfield.

Hodges said: “This is the third year we have done it so it’s becoming a bit of an annual event and serves a good purpose to test our player pathway and introduce supporters to some new faces.

“It will give players who have not featured in the Guinness PRO12 some game-time and a chance to stake a claim ahead of Europe and our tier one and two academy players an opportunity to make an impression for the British & Irish Cup.”

Cardiff Blues Premiership Select XV will kick-off their British & Irish Cup campaign against London Scottish at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on October 14.

All three Premiership clubs will host a pool stage encounter, with Pontypridd welcoming Ulster A and Merthyr staging the clash with Jersey Reds.
