Cardiff Blues successfully trial Goal-Light Technology in derbies

First Team News | 14th January 2020

If you attended one of the Welsh derbies at Cardiff Arms Park over the festive season you may have noticed something different - the light up posts thanks to Goal-Light Technology.

The invention, which was extensively developed and trialled at the Arms Park by Cardiff Blues supporter Mike Press, made its UK debut at last season’s Judgement Day double-header at the Principality Stadium.

It has also been used by World Rugby at the Hong Sevens, and was finally utilised at the home of Cardiff Blues for the Guinness PRO14 derbies against Dragons and Scarlets.

The technology has previously been used to light the posts green for a successful kick and red for a miss, however on this occasion blue was also used for Wales’ Capital Region.

Former Glantaf pupil, Mike Press said: “ It was a real honour to have to opportunity to showcase this technology at the Arms Park.

“Goal-Light Tech was designed to enhance the overall fan experience and help with visually impaired fans who may not know if a goal has been scored.

“Sport is about creating moments and this technology can help spectators get the most out of their match day experience.”
