Cardiff Blues can take confidence into Edinburgh encounter says Lewis-Hughes

22nd February 2019

Shane Lewis-Hughes believes Cardiff Blues can head to Edinburgh with confidence in both attack and defence, as they continue the hunt for a top-three finish in the Guinness PRO14.

After picking up two bonus points in last week’s defeat to Glasgow Warriors, John Mulvihill’s side are currently four points adrift of third-placed Connacht and are level on points with Welsh rivals Ospreys.

The Cardiff Blues academy product insists all focus in on the encounter against Richard Cockerill’s side, as they look to put pressure on the Galway-based outfit.

“One of the biggest positives against Glasgow last week was that the backs created a lot of opportunities to put us on the front foot,” said the back row.

“Our attack was good but our defence was a bit off in the first half and we struggled a bit.

“This week we want to play with a lot of tempo and we want to focus on our own game, especially in attack.

“I really do think our defence is one of our best in the PRO14 and we really back ourselves to get a lot of turn-overs. We want to play with confidence in both attack and defence.

“Last week's game has been and gone, so we're fully focused on Saturday's game now. We know how important it is to go up to Edinburgh and get a win.

“Every game is important now if we want to get into the play-offs, but we're only focused on Edinburgh and nothing else.

“We want to go up there and do the businessI'm just excited when I get the call to come into the side and just want to do a job for the squad.

“Hopefully I can take these opportunities  and work as hard as possible to get the result on the weekend.”
