Cardiff Blues Announce Worthington's Sponsorship

29th August 2006

More great news from the Arms Park this week with the announcement of a major new 3 year sponsorship agreement with Coors Brewers and Worthington’s.

Robert Norster, Cardiff Blues Chief Executive said,

“We are delighted to welcome Coors & Worthington’s on board as official sponsors to the Cardiff Blues. Coors have a very strong reputation supporting the community game throughout Wales and supply over 30 of the clubs within our region."

"The enthusiasm shown by Coors to provide a tangible marketing resource to support the ever increasing initiatives undertaken within the region, was a crucial factor in negotiations."

"The Worthington’s sponsorship, one of many new sponsors secured during the off season, is testament to the hard work undertaken by our Commercial Department.

"On the back of such good news, it is timely for me to formally announce that Tina Tew has duly been promoted to the position of Sales and Marketing Director for the company.

"On behalf of the Board, I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Tina on her new appointment.”

It is a significant sponsorship investment from Worthington’s and will be further boosted by a host of other benefits soon to be apparent at the club and to its supporters. In fact it is a welcome return home as the company’s relationship with the Arms Park actually goes back to 1884 when Frank Hancock the son of the Welsh founder “William Hancock” played for and captained both Cardiff RFC and Wales.

Since that time its support of Welsh Sport has been immense. Coors is a huge supporter of “grass roots” rugby in Wales. Worthington's is the Number One Selling Ale in Wales and Carling is the most popular product in the UK and also the “Official Lager” of the Millennium Stadium, enjoying some 75% of drinks sold there. The company is also proud to supply some 70% all of Welsh rugby clubs.

Worthington’s is planning to provide the Blues fans with some unique opportunities to get close to the club and the players they support. There will be a Worthington’s Player of the Year Award, voted on by club supporters and also a “Worthington’s Blues Supporter of the Year Award” plus other exciting initiatives which will be revealed as the season unfolds.

Coors Regional Director Brian Mills (himself a former player with Cardiff RFC) said; “We are absolutely delighted to be resuming a long and happy association with the Arms Park.

"We have the brand leading products and creative levels of support to help and assist the club in its future developments. While player recruitment is obviously important we hope to be one of the clubs best ‘summer signings.’

"We greatly look forward to working with the club in many areas at this exciting time in Cardiff Blues development on and off the field of play.”
