Cardiff Blues Academy claims victory against Leicester Tigers

8th November 2012

Four second- half tries gave the Blues Academy a 44-28 victory over Leicester Tigers Academy at Oval Park on Wednesday evening

Leicester Tigers got the first points on the board with their fly-half finishing a quick break and then adding the extras for a seven-point lead.

The Blues quickly responded with a penalty and their first try, but Leicester Tigers kicked a penalty to establish a three point lead.

Quick ball at the breakdown opened the opportunity for another Blues try, which saw the Tigers reply with a penalty. A spell of pressure near the Blues line gave the Tigers’ fly-half an opportunity to add three more points for a 16-15 advantage at half-time.

But a burst of 24 unanswered points in the second half took the Blues out of the Tigers’ reach. The Blues scored three tries in the third quarter of the game, taking the score to 39-16. Soon after the Blues Academy went on to score their sixth try, with less than 10 minutes to remaining.

In the final 10 minutes the Tigers scored their third try of the match, but due to the positive performance from the Blues Academy it was not enough for the Tigers to regain the lead.
