Brad Thyer signs Arms Park contract extension

First Team News | 17th May 2019

Cardiff Blues have continued building their pack with a new contract for Brad Thyer.

Following the news that fellow loose-head Rhys Gill has put pen to paper to kick-off #FrontRowFriday, Thyer has followed suit to remain at his home region.

The 26-year-old has become a hugely valuable member of the first-team squad since making his debut during the 2014-15 season and has now made 62 appearances.

Thyer was pleased to agree fresh terms and is now determined to continue his development in a competitive front-row.

He said: “I’m extremely happy to sign a new deal with my home region. I have progressed through the age-grades and spent the last few years training and playing with so many good friends.

“There’s superb competition in the front-row and that is only a positive for any player’s development. The opportunity, in recent years, to learn from such experienced players like Gethin Jenkins, Matthew Rees and Taufa’ao Filise has helped me to get where I am.

“I’m now excited about the future with the group of players we have here and continuing to work hard with my teammates and coaches to continue my development.”

Thyer will compete with the likes of Rhys Gill and Corey Domachowski for a starting spot at the Arms Park and Mulvihill has been impressed with his commitment and professionalism.

Mulvihill said: “Brad has really impressed me this season. His determination and work ethic is second to none and he continually strives to improve all elements of his game.

“Technically he is one of our best set-piece players and his work, on both sides of the ball, has really improved this season.

“Brad has set himself some big targets and I have every confidence that there are big things ahead of him if he continues to commit himself as he does.”
