Director of Rugby Mark Hammett admits he will be looking to see how his team deal with adversity for the first time ahead of the Guinness PRO12 clash with Ulster Rugby at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday night (kick-off 7.35pm).
Cardiff Blues sustained a first league defeat of the season as high-flying Glasgow Warriors ran out 33-12 winners on Sunday afternoon.
Hammer has now called on his team to bounce back immediately and wants to see the right attitude from his squad before the welcome the unbeaten Irish province.
“As a coach, management group and players within the side, we have got to move on quickly and get on with Ulster,” he said. “We are already looking at them and the players are in today (Monday) and we look at our plans.
“We lost to Glasgow, but I have said all along that this is a long-term plan. We have a group who are prepared to work hard and learn.
“The good thing for me is I will see how we deal with adversity,” he added. “This is another first so I am really interested to see if we lift our heads up and say we got one on the nose and time to go again or whether we shrug our shoulders.
“Nobody likes losing, it’s the worst thing in the world, but it’s part of sport. You win and you lose. I’ve been in teams and groups when we have never lost. I’ve also been in other groups where we have lost week on week on week.
“You learn a lot of things. As long as we keep making gains as a group then I won’t be happy, because winning makes us happy, but it will go a long way to achieving long-term what we want to be.”
