Bonus point win the icing on the cake for Cook

26th September 2018

A bonus point win over Munster was the icing on the cake of a very special evening for Macauley Cook.

The utility forward came off the bench during Friday’s clash at Cardiff Arms Park, making his 150th appearance for the region in the process.

Captain, Ellis Jenkins, also hit a century of caps for Cardiff Blues on Friday, and Cook said there was a celebratory mood in the changing room post-match.

“I was proud to come off the bench, and my parents were here to watch, so it was a special moment for myself,” said Cook.

“The night will stay long memory, and it will be extra fond memories because of the result we secured.

“The changing room was incredibly happy after the game. We spoke about the fact that we've had very tough opening weeks as a group.

“It's always nice to pick up your first win of the season, especially after losing games right at the death recently. It started to become a trend, and was something we had to overturn.

“We're very proud of the boys and how they kept going, working hard in training and during the whole week.

“We had a very honest week in the build up, looking at where we've gone wrong over the last few weeks.

“We've turned up on the Friday, put in a fantastic performance and manage to beat Munster convincingly.

“Our attack was great today, we managed to throw the ball around a bit, but most importantly didn't lose it.

“In the first three games we've looked good in attack but lost the ball too often allowing them to play the turnover which allowed them to score. Tonight, we looked after the ball better and that shows in the result.

Next up for John Mulvihill’s side will be the visit of Toyota Cheetahs to the Welsh capital on Friday.

Despite having reason to cheer their first win of the campaign, Cook insists the side are fully focused on the encounter against the South African outfit.

The former Wales under-20 captain said: “We know that we have a couple of really tough games coming up so we can't celebrate too much after tonight.

We had the weekend off to relax before coming back in on Monday, look at the next game and keep working hard

“So yes, it's nice to win, but we have to look forward, build on this performance and focus on the next game.”
