Blues to face Samoa in Quarter-Finals

21st June 2014

Cardiff Blues will face the might of Samoa Water President's 10 in the quarter-finals of the World Club 10s in Singapore after an enthralling opening day of competition in Southeast Asia.

Blues fought all the way in a tight Pool B and were within touching distance of taking top spot in the final group clash after an epic final encounter with Australian Super 15 giants the Brumbies.

However, a narrow 21-12 defeat, despite tries form Ellis Jenkins and Macauley Cook, means Blues finished the opening day of the inaugural tournament in third spot in Pool B and face a Samoan team who finished second in Pool A and only defeated by the Auckland Blues.

Blues also came close to victory in the opening clash of the day as they lost out 19-12 to the Asia Pacific Dragons despite a spirited second half fight-back and superb solo try from new signing George Watkins.

Coaches Dale McIntosh and Paul John also saw Blues produce arguably the performance of the day in the afternoon as they thrashed Petrarca Rugby 36-0 with the fit-again Owen Williams among the six try scorers.
