Blues Rugby Education Course for Powys

19th May 2015

Cardiff Blues is proud to announce that Crickhowell High School has become the latest establishment in our region to sign up to offer our new and exciting rugby education programme.

The region has announced plans to roll out a new education programme, in conjunction with TVS Education, aimed at post 16 studies for September 2015.

Radyr Comprehensive School (Cardiff), Tonyrefail (Rhondda Valley), Aberdare Community School (Cynon Valley) and St Cyres School (Vale of Glamorgan) all signed up as Exclusive Official Partner Schools.

And now Crickhowell High School have joined the rugby education programme to offer the course for students, aged between 16 and 18, in South Powys and the surrounding area, starting this September.

The Cardiff Blues Rugby Education Course entails a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport; equivalent to 3 A-Levels, and a Technical Rugby Programme; eight hours a week of practical rugby coaching delivery, coach education and mentoring, delivered by Cardiff Blues.

The course also gives students an exclusive opportunity to gain valuable work based learning experience through the Cardiff Blues Community Department. All of this while gaining qualifications for University.

The course will provide many positive opportunities and coaching and development pathways for students to ensure maximum engagement and achievement.

We aim to use the Cardiff Blues brand to engage, retain and ultimately progress students involved in the programme.

The course offers the opportunity for students to gain a career in the sporting industry, whether that be as a Coach, Sports Therapist, or Sports Development Officer.

Nadine Griffiths, Blues Community Manager, said: "It is an exciting time for us as we form strong relationships with many schools to offer the Rugby Education Programme and we are thrilled that Crickhowell have signed up so we can cover the whole region.

“This course is perfect for you if are keen on seeking further education and if you enjoy sport. We are holding an Open Evening at Crickhowell High School next month and we are encouraging parents and students to discover more about what we are offering.”

The Official Open Evening will take place at Crickhowell High School on Wednesday 3rd June at 6pm.

If you wish to attend any of the Open Evenings or want further information, please contact Liam Scott, Senior Community Rugby Officer, on [email protected] or by calling 02920 302051.
