European Rugby Cup Ltd has confirmed that Wales will have four regions competing in next seasons Heineken Cup tournament. Cardiff Blues will represent the Welsh challenge along with the three other regions.
Welcoming todays news, Cardiff Blues chief executive Robert Norster said,
Obviously we are delighted at the news that Cardiff Blues will again be competing in Europes blue riband event for clubs and regions. Naturally we would have preferred for our participation to have been based purely on merit but it does ensure that the Blues players will be able to continue to compete with the elite teams. Maintaining a four-team representation in the Heineken Cup can only be to the benefit of our national sport.
I sincerely hope that now we have been given this late opportunity to continue in the Heineken Cup that we can build on our last campaign when we finished strongly with two good victories in our final three pool matches. Our aim must now be to be competitive throughout the full span of fixtures.
