Blues pay tribute to Howard Norris

29th January 2015

Cardiff Blues is saddened to hear the news that former Cardiff RFC, Wales and British & Irish Lion prop, Charles Howard Norris has passed away.

Howard Norris was capped twice for Wales, both times against France, once in 1963 and the other in 1966.

Born in Porth, ‘Howie’ started his career with local Rhondda Valley team, Tylorstown RFC before moving to Cardiff RFC in 1958 where he became a club stalwart. Norris holds the record for most first XV appearances for Cardiff RFC, playing 415 times over 12 seasons, scoring 14 tries. He also made one appearance in the 7s Snelling Tournament for the club.

He was selected for the 1966 British Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand and played in the first three tests against the All Blacks, giving him the distinction of earning more caps for the Lions than his own country.

Everyone at Cardiff Blues would like to pass on our condolences to his family and friends at this time.
