Blues girls start WRU Regional Girls Championship strongly

22nd February 2012

A sunny, but crisp afternoon in February saw Caerphilly RFC play host to the first game of the Regional Competition between the Blues and Dragons.

With conditions perfect for rugby the Blues kick off was fielded by the Dragons and at the first ruck, speedy Stephanie Cooper spotted something that nobody else had and took the ball on a long arcing run down the blindside, beating several players on her way and finally dotting down near the posts. It was a perfect start for the Blues inside two minutes the Dragons were left somewhat shell-shocked.

A few minutes later Chloe Smith weaved in and out of the Dragons defence to score a try in the far corner. The Dragons did run some ball, but where never a concern for the Blues backs.

With the Blues forwards stealing the ball and passing out wide leading to the Blues adding a further 41 points.

Referee Julian Smith blew the final whistle after only 32 minutes of play as the score had reached the 50 pointer mark.

Team Manager Alan Roberts said:

“The Blues Coaches where impressed with the talent on the field today, although a short game, we can see a great side in the making, and look forward to playing Gogledd Cymru next Sunday at Gwernyfed RFC.”
