Following on from the success of the Cardiff Blues open training session held earlier in the season in the Rhondda, yesterday the Blues held an open training session in Brecon
The Blues held the training session with hundreds of children and teachers looking on. After the training session the players were able to meet all the children with free posters being handed out for autographs. The whole squad posed for photos with young supporters before joining Christ College Pupils for lunch.
Speaking at Brecon Phil Davies said,
“I’m very passionate about our commitment with the communities in the region and turnout at Brecon was fantastic.
“I’d like to thank everyone at Christ College Brecon for making us feel so welcome and organizing such a great day.
“The players all enjoyed meeting the youngsters and there were over 500 kids here today.
“It shows that there is still a great appetite for rugby in the region and it was great to see so many down at the Zebre’s game a few weeks ago.”
The Blues have launched a new initiative to help promote community rugby whereby juniors, aged 16 and under, can allocate their rugby club when they purchase a Junior Season ticket for £40 and the Blues will give £6 back to their mini and juniors section.
With 19 clubs in Cardiff & Vale, 23 clubs in Taff Rhondda and 14 clubs in Heart of Wales coaching nearly 7,500 minis and juniors, over £33,000 could be put back into mini and junior sections in the region.
By purchasing a Cardiff Blues Junior Season Ticket not only will youngsters be helping put money back to your mini and junior section but they will also be able to see some of the biggest names in Welsh rugby such as Leigh Halfpenny, Alex Cuthbert and Sam Warburton playing for the Blues in Europe's premier club competition The Heineken Cup.
