11th June 2003

Cardiff Blues have completed the signing of Prop Forward, Darren Crompton from Bristol Shoguns.

He is expected to be the final piece in the jigsaw as the Cardiff Blues’ preparations for the new season near completion.

David Young, Cardiff Blues Head Coach said,

“We are pleased to welcome Darren to the Arms Park. Having played against him, I know that he is a real cornerstone prop and will be a great asset to the Cardiff Blues team next season.

“Darren has first hand experience of our squad having previously played with Nick Walne and Craig Quinnell, together with his former Bristol team-mates Dean Dewdney and Jim Brownrigg. We feel he will quickly become an integral part of our front row unit.”

The new Cardiff Blues signing, said,

“I am looking forward to the challenge of playing in the new Celtic Super 12 league and the Heineken Cup, and the prospect of working with Dai, a fellow prop, is a big bonus.”

This announcement follows less than a week after the Cardiff Blues revealed seven new signings at their launch.

Cardiff Blues Chief Executive, Robert Norster said,

“Darren will be a valuable addition to our regional team and helps to bring a greater balance to our squad.

“He is a proven talent who has won England international honours in the game at both junior and senior levels. We are naturally delighted to welcome him to the Arms Park as the final piece in our squad jigsaw.”
