Gareth Anscombe is looking forward to a festive trip to face the Scarlets after landing a last-minute winner against the Dragons.
The Wales fly-half displayed nerves of steel as he sealed a ninth consecutive Guinness PRO14 victory over the Dragons with the last kick of the game.
Anscombe was frustrated with the nature of the triumph and elements of his side’s performance but he was relieved to secure four-points and is now looking ahead to a trip to Parc y Scarlets on December 29.
He said: “It’s a little bit frustrating that we needed that to win and we won’t look back on this game with many fond memories but it’s four points, we needed that and we’ll take it and move on.
“We will head out west with some points to prove and build on this. No one will be expecting us to go there and get a result.
“The main thing is we can enjoy the weekend after a pretty tough couple of weeks. We can enjoy Christmas with our families and then come next week we’ll go out there and give it a good lick.
“We don’t have much to lose and are certainly capable of going there and getting a result. We need to believe that. We’ll enjoy Christmas, come back in later in the week and pick things up with a bit of confidence.”
The Scarlets have now lost four consecutive matches with the Ospreys breaking their 10-match derby streak on Saturday.
But Anscombe insists the West Walians have far too much quality to underestimate and that the Blues will be underdogs.
Speaking ahead of the Scarlets’ loss to the Ospreys, he said: “You can’t have the quality they have and not be a decent side.
“Clearly they’ve had a few injury problems and that’s hurt them and they’ve had to deal with a bit of expectation and it’s tough to always difficult to keep backing that up. They have struggled a little bit but look at the quality right across their team, the amount of internationals and experience they have.
“They are still the best side, and we are still chasing them, particularly at home where they haven’t lost in two years.
“It will be a good challenge for us, we’ve won there before but we will have to be a hell of a lot better than against the Dragons.
“There’s a lot for us to work on. We’re battle hardened in the sense that we’ve had a pretty tough run of games and it’s certainly testing our strength and depth with a lot of injuries. “We can’t come up for air at the moment with Sarries back-to-back and a much-needed win against the Dragons.
“The derby games are always intense and physical and when you have to contend with conditions like Friday it’s tough. It’s a tough period and it’s testing us but we have to stick tight and keep turning up for each other.”
