Anscombe set for spell on sidelines

21st October 2015

Cardiff Blues has confirmed that Gareth Anscombe is set for an enforced spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury.

The Wales international, who has now won three caps for his country, sustained a recurrence on an injury to his right ankle injury during the Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat to South Africa.

Anscombe, 24, visited a specialist at the start of the week and following that consultation, and in conjunction with the medical teams at the WRU and Cardiff Blues, he will now undergo surgery later this week.

The playmaker will commence a period of rehabilitation following his operation and Cardiff Blues will make relevant future announcements.

“Gareth has an injury that requires surgery and he will be out for a period of time,” said Head Coach Danny Wilson.

“We expect he will be back the other side of Christmas, but at the moment we are not putting a timescale on it. He will get all the support he needs and we wish him well with his recovery.”
