For only the third time in over a hundred years Cynon Valley Schools Rugby Union U15's managed to gain silverware in a national schools 15 a side district competition. Played at St.Helens, Swansea on a glorious sunny morning the young Cynon players showed much skill and endeavour to overcome a plucky Powys side.

Powys opened the scoring with a well taken penalty.  With much of the early 1st half play in the Cynon half it was with some relief that scrum half Shaun Clarke scored an excellent individual try which Sam Withers converted to make the half time score 7-3 to Cynon Valley.

Cynon started the 2nd half with a bang, excellent interplay between forwards and backs resulted in well worked tries for Jay Evans and Alex Chaffe, one of which was converted by Sam Withers.

Much to Powys’s credit they refused to lie down and pressurised the Cynon line until the end, grabbing two tries. There was some excellent Cynon Valley defence in the second half which made these scores mere consolation and eventually the final whistle was blown to make Cynon Valley deserved winners of the 2010 Amdahl Bowl Final.

With a squad of 25 all kitted out in newly acquired jerseys kindly donated by the Cynon Valley Rugby Initiative, the boys were all a credit to their schools and the Valley as a whole.
