All set for #StayStrongForOws Bike Ride

2nd June 2015

Over 35 cyclists will take to the saddle at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park this Wednesday morning as they start an epic four-day trip from Cardiff to Paris for #StayStrongForOws.

Cardiff Blues announced last week how the #StayStrongForOws fundraising and awareness campaign, in aid of injured player Owen Williams, has now raised over £190,000.

And the latest major fundraising event will take place this week as cyclists start a marathon 325 mile ride from the home of Cardiff Blues to the Eiffel Tower in the French capital.

Players and coaching staff from Cardiff Blues plus members of Owen’s family, including his father and brother, are among those taking part in the ride, with all monies raised going to the former Blues player who suffered a serious spinal injury in action for the region in Singapore last June.

Richard Holland, Chief Executive at Cardiff Blues and one of those taking part in the bike ride, said: “We’ve been absolutely thrilled by the kindness, generosity and support of the rugby community and wider world for the #StayStrongForOws campaign over the last 12 months.

“We have held many fundraising events for Owen and the Cardiff to Paris Bike Ride – that will include players, backroom staff and members of Owen’s family as riders – is the latest of those special events as we continue our long-term support of him.

“We thank all the riders for taking part and raising funds. I’m sure it will be a fantastic four-day event to raise both more fundraising and awareness for #StayStrongForOws.”

Fans are welcome to come along and cheer the cyclists as they depart! First group leaves BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park at 8.45am.
