Summerhill left disappointed despite hat-trick in loss to Glasgow Warriors

16th February 2019

Despite grabbing a hat-trick in the 38-34 defeat to Glasgow Warriors on Saturday, Aled Summerhill insists team results is his priority rather than individual honours.

The wing took his tally to seven tries this season - with five of those coming against the Scotstoun outfit - but Wales’ Capital Region had to settle for two bonus points as Davie Rennie’s side came away from the Arms Park with maximum points.

Summerhill believes his side can be proud of their effort against the Warriors in the non-stop, breathtaking encounter.

“I’m disappointed, despite the hat-trick, because I’d much rather be sitting here with a win than getting individual scores,” said the academy product.

“No one gave up on that pitch. We knew how important this game was for us and it was good that we at least came away with two bonus points. Those points could prove crucial towards the end of the season.

“The first half was quick, and the last 10 minutes was even quicker. We stuck in there, but just weren’t good enough on the night.

“Being a back, I enjoy quick tempo games like that, but I’m not sure about some of the forwards.

“This is the fourth time we’ve played them this season, and all week we’ve had a game plan heading into tonight, but they were just too clinical.

“The second half was much better but we need to learn to start games in the same way we can finish them.”

Next up for John Mulvihill’s side is a trip to the Scottish capital, where they will take on Richard Cockerill’s in-form Edinburgh side at BT Murrayfield.

Summerhill believes his side can head to Edinburgh with belief and is confident that the team’s leaders will stand up in the absence of internationals.

The wing said: “As a group we believe in each other and we’re straight into another big game up in Edinburgh. We’ve then got the Kings at home and we want to pick up more points before another couple of weeks off ahead of the last block of games.

“Edinburgh looked good against Dragons last night but we won’t fear them and we’ll head up there looking to give it a good crack.

“We have good leaders in the group at the moment, such as Nick Williams, Olly Robinson who are crucial to this point of the season.

“We’re missing a few and had three of the boys back tonight, but we’re confident in the group here that we can still do a job when those boys are away.”
