Born and bred in South Africa, Cardiff Blues back row forward Andries Pretorius moved to the U.K. in 2006 to study business at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, an establishment which has a proud rugby tradition.
The powerful back rower from Durban has made steady progress since switching from Gloucester to take up a three-year contract, and made his debut for the Blues against Connacht in December 2009.
Having skippered Hartpury and represented England Students, Andries then linked up with Gloucester’s Academy, before deciding to make the move to Cardiff. In 2011 Pretorious was award Player’s Player of the Year and the following season was elected as the Cardiff Blues captain for the 2012/13 season.
At the start of 2013 Pretorious became eligible for Wales and was named in the squad for the Six Nations Championship. However it would not be until Wales’ summer tour in Japan, that Pretorious would get his first cap for Wales.
