Dafydd Hewitt joined Cardiff from the Llantwit Major club at the start of the 2004-05 season and immediately made a big impresssion. A skilful and creative midfield player he went on to play in 15 league and cup games and scored three tries. He fully deserved his eventual selection for the all-conquering Wales team in the under-21 Six Nations championship. Injuries and international calls (when he again shone for Wales under-21s) limited his Blue & Black appearances in 2005-06 to 12 games but he still scored five tries.
In January 2006 Dafydd made his debut for the Blues against Edinburgh. In the summer of 2006 he captained Wales in the IRB Under-21 World Cup tournament in France before returning home for surgery after fracturing his cheekbone and eye socket against Argentina.
In 2012 Hewitt was named as vice-captain of the Blues and has made over 90 appearances for the region.
