Rhys Williams

Rhys Williams was a fly-half and centre at Cowbridge Comprehensive School, where he was also a notable cricketer. He starred in the Cardiff Youth team and achieved prominence for Wales under-19 in the FIRA World Cup of 1999. In the same season he made his senior debut for the Cardiff club against Bedford at the Arms Park. He was 16 days short of his 19th birthday, played in the centre, and celebrated with a 41st-minute try.

Thirteen months later he made his senior international debut for Wales against Ireland at Lansdowne Road and he was also one of the Magnificent Seven Blues players that helped Wales win the Grand Slam in 2005. The same year Rhys was appointed Blues Captain aged 25 years old. In the 2006/07 season rhys suffered a severe hip injury when he tore the muscle from the bone. He fought back from injury and scored a hat-trick on his return against Edinburgh at the Arms Park.
