More than 600 local girls took part in Cardiff Blues' Rookie Rugby Day, which was ran in conjunction with the Welsh Rugby Union.
All secondary schools in the Cardiff Blues region were invited to the Cardiff City House of Sport Air Dome, with the aim to introduce the pupils in attendance to rugby, using a variety of rugby-related activities and formats.
Pupils from 24 schools attended the day, and on hand to deliver the sessions were Cardiff Blues Rugby Officers, BTEC and Foundation Degree students, hub officers, WRU apprentices and Cardiff and Vale College students.
Also in attendance were the Royal Air Force, the Welsh Guards and proud Cardiff Blues sponsors, Renishaw, who all supported the event.
Cardiff Blues Community Foundation director, and former Wales women international, Nadine Griffiths, said: “Its great to see all partnerships coming together to deliver what was a fantastic event.
“It’s amazing to see so many girls thoroughly enjoying themselves and having their 1st taste of rugby. Hopefully these girls have been inspired to be our next Cardiff Blues Women & Girls players, international players or our next rugby officers, rugby managers or anything they dream to be within our game.
“As a region its important for us to play our part in increasing participation in the women & girls game, ensuring that we provide outstanding opportunities for all.
“With the creation of the Cardiff Blues Community Foundation we strive to provide more and more opportunities for all communities throughout our region.”
