Lloyd Williams insists that securing the result, rather than the bonus point, was his side's top priority against Toyota Cheetahs on Friday.
The scrum half was a replacement during Friday’s 24-21 win over the South African outfit, and made an impact from the bench, scoring a fine individual try which would swing momentum in the hosts’ favour.
Three tries were enough for the home side, as John Mulvihill’s side battle back from an 11-point deficit to claim victory over the Cheetahs.
The Welsh international says it’s important that Wales’ Capital Region focus on winning their home games, and says they focus on each game as it comes.
“Getting the win, at home, was the most important thing at the end of the day,” said Williams.
“Before the game, we would’ve taken this result, therefore it’s important that we focus on securing the result first, and think about the bonus point after that.
“It’s always important that we play well at home. Unfortunately we lost to lost to Leinster on the opening weekend, and we felt that we let all the supporters down on that occasion.
“As a squad and as players, it’s important to us as well that we play well here at the Arms Park.
“We actually could’ve had the bonus point in the first half. There were some nice breaks from Gareth Anscombe and even Rhys Gill, which was nice to see! But unfortunately we couldn’t quite finish those moves off.
“There were a couple of things we touched upon during half time, and perhaps my try came from those changes.
“We lost the opening three games in the final quarter, so it was pleasing to be able to come from behind and get that result.
“There were a lot of positives in the first month, but only one win. But, we only take each game one at a time.
“We want to win every game, and if we manage to perform well then hopefully the results will follow.”
Next up for Cardiff Blues is a trip to Newport, where they take on regional rivals, Dragons, at Rodney Parade.
Williams expects a typically hostile welcome at Rodney Parade, but believes the atmosphere can be used as motivation for the visitors.
The scrum-half said: “The derbies are important to us as a region. On a personal level every wants to play and perform in those big games.
“We know what to expect at Rodney Parade, but it’s a huge opportunity for the squad to win the first derby of the season.
“Everyone remembers their first experience of playing at Rodney Parade, and that’s the charm of the place.
“Personally I always enjoy playing there. It has a fiery atmosphere every time and it’s good to be part of that occasion."
